Cork and Its Uses

Cork, considered one of the most eco-friendly materials in the world, is nothing but the outer bark of the cork oak tree (Quercus suber L.).

Post plantation, a cork tree can be stripped for the very first time after completing 25 years. Generally, the first two strippings do not yield quality cork. It is only in the third stripping, when the cork tree is almost 43 years of age that the outer bark yields quality material for producing a range of high-value cork products. Cork derived from the first two harvests is also used as raw material for making various products, mainly products utilized for purposes like flooring and insulation.
